The Supreme Court won the petition of Jonila Castro and Jhed Tamano, environmental activists abducted by military agents, for the writ of amparo and habeas data. They achieved this after the continuous insistence and disclosure of military and NTF-ELCAC brutality since they were seized on September 2, 2023. The two secretly detained for two weeks and subjected to torture and threats to their alive.
According to the law, two activists and their families cannot approach less than one kilometer of NTF-ELCAC military and personnel. They can also obtain and erase the personal data that the state holds to protect their security and rights of privacy.
The Supreme Court provided a temporary protection, and the Petition for Permanent Protection Order and Production Order was still guilty of the Court of Appeals.
